S.st --ws Gender and Women Empowerment

1. What do these pictures depict?
 Picture 1 – A lady working hard at home.
 Picture 2 – A lady discriminated at work.
2. Do you think such discrimination exists in India? Yes.
3. Analyse if gender stereotyping is the root cause of such discrimination.
Stereotyping of boys and girls begins at a very young age. Most societies are
of the belief that men should work and women should stay at home. Further if
women work, they are expected to fulfill their roles as a home maker. Jobs
are also stereotyped for men and women.

1. What is the work of the writer’s mother? - domestic help.
2. How did the writer feel about her mother when she was young? – ashamed of
her mother’s work.
3. Write three lines about what you feel for the lady in your house who takes
care of you. She may be your mother, your grandmother or even your
caretaker.
I respect her and thank her for taking such good care of me. It would have
been very difficult for me without her to support me. She helps me in my
studies too.

Q V Thousands of girls are killed in the name of tradition or burden. The Girl Child
Protection Scheme was launched by the Government to protect the girl child.
Make a creative poster with a message supporting this initiative of the
government.
